Title: Living the Joy of Resurrection: Monday in the Octave of Easter

Scripture:
“Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
John 20:21 (NIV)

Reflection:

On this radiant Monday in the Octave of Easter, the vibrant joy of the Resurrection remains fresh, like the glistening dewdrops catching the first light of dawn. The powerful echoes of Christ's triumphant victory over death continue to resonate deeply within our hearts. But today, we are gently reminded that the Resurrection is not merely a glorious event to celebrate—it is a dynamic reality to actively live out in every facet of our lives.

When the risen Jesus appeared to His disciples, His first words were a profound blessing: "Peace be with you." This peace is far more than the absence of earthly turmoil or a fleeting moment of tranquility; it is the deep, abiding peace that flows from the absolute certainty that Christ has definitively overcome the world. It is the tranquil assurance of a heart that knows death has been utterly defeated, the suffocating grip of sin has been broken, and the promise of eternal life is irrevocably secure. This peace, "Peace be with you," is not a mere sentiment, but a tangible gift that flows from the very presence of the risen Christ within us.

And then, in the very next breath, Jesus entrusts His followers with a profound mission: "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." This is not simply a command, but an empowering commission—just as the Father equipped Jesus for His earthly ministry, so too does the Holy Spirit equip each of us to be Christ's hands and feet in the world. We are sent forth, not as passive recipients of Christ's incredible grace, but as active participants in His ongoing work of love, reconciliation, and life-altering transformation.

The Resurrection compels us to embody the very victory of Christ in each and every moment of our earthly existence. It calls us to vibrantly live out the overflowing joy, the unwavering hope, and the profound peace that spring from the deep knowing that Christ is indeed risen, and to actively share this living hope with everyone around us. We are sent to be radiant beacons of His glorious light in a world that is so often shrouded in darkness and despair. We are sent to intentionally bring His comforting peace to those who are weary and burdened, His infectious joy to those who are weighed down by grief, and His unconditional love to those who feel desperately forgotten. Living the joy of the Resurrection might mean offering forgiveness when wronged, extending a hand of practical kindness to someone in need, speaking words of genuine encouragement to the discouraged, or simply radiating the inner peace that Christ provides.

Today, as we prayerfully reflect on the powerful words of Jesus, let us each ask ourselves with honest introspection: How am I actively living out the joy of the Resurrection in my daily life? Am I intentionally carrying the transformative peace that Christ so freely gives into my homes, my workplaces, my local communities? Am I wholeheartedly responding to His compelling call to be His authentic witnesses in the world? The Resurrection is not a distant event confined to the pages of history—it is a vibrant, present reality that urgently invites us to be personally transformed and to become active agents of positive transformation in the world around us.

Prayer:
Risen Lord, thank You for the profound peace that Your glorious Resurrection brings into the deepest places of our hearts. Help me, I pray, to actively live out this precious peace every single day, to intentionally carry its comforting presence with me wherever I go, and to generously share its transformative power with all those I encounter along life's path. May Your overflowing joy fill me to the very brim, and may I be a living, breathing witness to the incredible power of Your Resurrection, bringing tangible hope and radiant light to a world that is desperately in need of Your saving grace. Send me out, just as You sent Your own disciples, to fearlessly carry Your boundless love to the very ends of the earth. May my entire life consistently reflect the profound joy and perfect peace of the Resurrection, and may those around me clearly see Your unconditional love in everything I say and do. Amen.

A Holy Week Journey:
As we continue our sacred journey through the joyous season of Easter, may we purposefully live out the vibrant joy of the Resurrection not just on Easter Sunday, but in every single day that follows. Let the perfect peace of Christ deeply fill your heart and actively flow into all your actions, transforming the world around you, one interaction at a time. Intentionally carry His radiant light, His boundless love, and His unwavering hope with you always, and strive to be a compelling witness to the living reality of the Resurrection in each and every precious moment of your life.

April 20, 2025 – Easter Sunday: The Glorious Resurrection

Scripture:

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!”

Luke 24:5-6 (NIV)

Reflection:

The earth bursts forth in new life, mirroring the joy that erupts in our hearts, and the heavens resound with a triumphant chorus of victory! On this glorious Easter Sunday, the quiet stillness of Holy Saturday is shattered by the radiant light of Resurrection, and death is forever defeated. Christ is risen! The heavy stone has been rolled away, and the tomb that once held our precious Savior is now empty, not because He was merely taken away, but because He actively shattered the chains of death, trampling its power once and for all.

In the face of deepest darkness, Jesus blazed forth with light; in the face of utter despair, He brought forth an unshakeable hope. His glorious Resurrection marks the complete fulfillment of the divine promises made to us—promises that no darkness is too profound, no grave too final, no situation too utterly hopeless for the boundless power of God to redeem. The exuberant joy of the Resurrection is not simply a past event we reverently commemorate, but a vibrant, living reality that surges through our very being, filling us with the unshakable hope that we, too, have complete victory over sin and death through Him.

On this radiant day, as the angels' triumphant words echo through eternity— “He is not here; He has risen!”—let this powerful proclamation resonate deeply within your own heart. This is not merely a message for the bewildered women at the empty tomb, but a personal declaration for each and every one of us. The risen Christ is with us now, actively present in our lives, offering His perfect peace, His overflowing joy, and the precious promise of eternal life. The Resurrection is not just a remarkable event in history—it is a living, breathing reality that actively transforms our hearts, renews our lives, and radiates outwards to the world around us.

As we celebrate this most wondrous of days, let us hold firmly to the truth that the Resurrection is the very bedrock of our faith. It is the inexhaustible source of our hope, the overflowing reason for our deepest joy, and the unshakable foundation of our lasting peace. Christ’s decisive victory over the cold grip of death assures us beyond any doubt that our sins are completely forgiven, our eternal future is absolutely secure, and our present lives are empowered by the very presence of the risen Savior.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, on this glorious Easter Sunday, my heart overflows with uncontainable joy as I celebrate the triumph of Your Resurrection! Thank You, from the depths of my being, for conquering the power of sin and the finality of death, for flooding our darkened world with the radiant light of hope, and for offering us the immeasurable gift of eternal life in Your presence. May Your glorious Resurrection power actively transform me today and every day that follows, as I strive to live fully in the victory You so definitively secured for me. Help me to walk boldly in the joy and perfect peace of Your abiding presence, sharing the life-altering good news of Your triumphant victory with all those I encounter. May my entire life be a clear and unwavering reflection of the living hope that You are indeed alive, and that in You, we too share in that eternal victory. Amen.

A Holy Week Journey:

The sacred journey of Holy Week reaches its magnificent culmination in the triumphant glory of Easter, where we celebrate the single greatest victory in the entire history of humankind. As we joyfully step forward from this radiant day, may we carry the transformative joy and perfect peace of the Resurrection deep within us, living each moment in the dynamic power of Christ’s ultimate victory over sin and death. Let the brilliant light of Easter shine brightly in your heart and illuminate your entire life, not just today, but always.

April 19, 2025 – Holy Saturday: Awaiting the Resurrection

Scripture:

“The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.”
Luke 23:55-56 (NIV)

Reflection:

Yesterday, the air crackled with anguish; today, a profound stillness descends upon Holy Saturday—a day of quiet waiting. The world feels suspended, caught between the agonizing death of Jesus and the dawning of glorious hope. After the profound darkness of Good Friday, the disciples and devoted followers of Jesus faced a quiet, sorrowful moment, shrouded in uncertainty about what the morrow would bring. The tomb remained sealed, the body of Christ laid to rest in the cold embrace of stone.

Yet, even within this heavy silence, an undercurrent of anticipation stirs. For though all appeared lost in the stark reality of the tomb, a fragile seed of hope remained—the memory of Jesus' powerful promises, the unwavering belief in God's ultimate power. The waiting of Holy Saturday reminds us that we, too, often find ourselves in seasons of profound silence, where God's presence may seem distant in our darkest moments. But even then, He is at work, unseen, preparing something far beyond the limits of our imagination.

Just as the women, though their hearts were surely heavy with grief, still prepared their spices—a quiet act of devotion hinting at a hope that would not be extinguished—we too are called to wait with unwavering faith and steadfast hope. Holy Saturday invites us to find rest in the enduring promise that the silence, however deep, is never permanent, and that God's divine plans are always unfolding, even when veiled from our immediate sight.

Prayer:

Lord, on this Holy Saturday, I enter into this quiet stillness, waiting with hopeful expectation. Even as the disciples and the faithful women rested, their hearts undoubtedly filled with uncertainty about what the coming dawn would reveal, help me to trust with unwavering conviction that You are always at work, even in the deepest silence. Grant me the gift of patience and the strength of faith to wait upon Your perfect timing, knowing that You are orchestrating a reality far beyond my current understanding. As I hold onto the anticipation of Resurrection joy, let my heart be filled with the comforting peace of Your abiding presence. Amen.

A Holy Week Journey:
As we embrace the quiet stillness of this sacred day, let us hold fast to the truth that God's timing is always, unfailingly perfect. Tomorrow, the silence will shatter, and we will experience the full, radiant glory of His victory over sin and death as we celebrate the Resurrection. Join us in joyful anticipation of the glorious light of Easter morning.

April 18, 2025 – Good Friday: The Weight of “It Is Finished”

Scripture:

“When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, ‘It is finished!’ Then, bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.”
— John 19:30 (EHV)
Evangelical Lutheran Synod

Reflection:

Today, a hush falls over our hearts as we stand in solemn silence at the foot of the cross. Jesus' final words, “It is finished,” echo through eternity—not as a sigh of defeat, but as a victorious declaration. In this profound moment, God's redemptive plan reached its culmination. With these three powerful words, Christ triumphed over the crushing weight of sin and the sting of death, bridging the seemingly insurmountable chasm between humanity and a holy God. The full penalty for our transgressions was paid, the temple curtain torn asunder, and the path to reconciliation and lasting peace flung wide open.

His sacrifice on this dark day was not merely the end of unimaginable suffering; it was, and forever remains, the radiant dawn of our hope. These words are not confined to the annals of history; they are a living heartbeat of divine love, a pulse that continues to resonate into every fragile corner of our lives, offering solace and redemption. Our salvation is not a prize to be earned through relentless striving, but a precious gift, freely and abundantly given—secured not by our fleeting efforts, but by His enduring and all-sufficient grace.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, on this Good Friday, I pause in deepest awe and overflowing gratitude. Thank You, beyond words, for willingly carrying the immense weight of my sin to that rugged cross and proclaiming with final, triumphant certainty, “It is finished.” In the light of this completed work, help me to truly live in the freedom, the unshakeable joy, and the profound peace that Your sacrifice so dearly purchased. May my life, in every thought, word, and deed, reflect the immeasurable grace You have shown me and stand as a living, breathing testimony to Your boundless and unwavering love. Amen.

A Holy Week Journey:

This reflection marks a pivotal point in our Holy Week journey. Tomorrow, we enter the quiet stillness of Holy Saturday, holding onto the hope born from this sacrifice. Join us as we continue to walk towards the glorious light of Resurrection Sunday, anticipating the fullness of God's victory.

The Stillness Before Sunrise: Finding Easter Hope in the Waiting

Daily Devotion – April 17, 2025

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary;
and they shall walk, and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

In the Shadow of the Empty Tomb

We stand in the glorious season of Easter, where the crushing darkness of the cross yielded to the radiant dawn of the empty tomb. It's a time of profound renewal—where hope is resurrected, and the promises of God find their resounding "yes" in Jesus.

Yet even in this victorious season, many of us are still waiting.

Waiting for healing’s touch.
For breakthrough in our finances.
For clarity of purpose.
For the deep peace our hearts long for.

Let us not forget the disciples. The triumphant cries of Palm Sunday dissolved into the agony of Good Friday, followed by the heavy, silent void of Saturday. Imagine their emotions—the dashed hopes, the gnawing uncertainty, the seeming finality of loss.

But Sunday came. And with it, the earth-shattering reality of the resurrection.

Waiting is not abandonment. It is often the sacred space where God works most profoundly—preparing a glory we cannot yet fathom, just as He did that first Easter morning.

Resurrection Power in Our Present Waiting

Isaiah 40:31 assures us that as we wait on the Lord, our strength is not depleted—it is miraculously renewed. Easter reminds us that this isn’t just about enduring hardship—it’s about rising in resurrection power.

The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave (Romans 8:11) lives in us today, giving us the strength to rise above anxiety, doubt, and despair. This power brings peace that quiets the soul, faith that steadies the heart, and courage to take the next small step, even when the path ahead is unclear.

A Prayer for Renewed Hope

Risen Savior, I thank You for the unshakeable hope of Easter.
Even when I feel trapped in the “Saturday” of my own story—
waiting, wondering, unsure—remind me that the dawn is coming.
Teach me to lean into Your presence in the quiet,
to trust that resurrection is always on the horizon.
Fill me with Your strength today. In Your name, Amen.

Today’s Reflection

This Easter season, as lilies bloom and victory songs rise, take a quiet moment.

Where in your life are you waiting?

How can the unwavering hope of the resurrection reshape how you see this season?

What small step of trust can you take today, believing that your “Sunday” is coming?

Breathe. Be still. And let God whisper to your soul:

“I am working. I am not done with you yet.”

Day 45: Saturday, April 15 – Holy Saturday: Waiting in Hope

Day 45: Saturday, April 15 – Holy Saturday: Waiting in Hope

Scripture

"The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. 'Sir,' they said, 'we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, "After three days I will rise again." So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.' So Pilate ordered the tomb to be made secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard."Matthew 27:62-66 (NIV)

Reflection

Holy Saturday is a day of silence, grief, and waiting. Jesus was laid in the tomb, and for His followers, all seemed lost. The Messiah they had hoped in was gone. The cross had shattered their expectations.

Can you imagine the confusion and sorrow they must have felt?

  • The disciples were in hiding, fearing what would happen next.
  • Mary, His mother, grieved deeply, remembering the words spoken over her Son from His birth.
  • The Pharisees feared deception, demanding that Pilate seal the tomb to prevent any false claims.
  • The world seemed unchanged, unaware that history was about to shift forever.

A Day of Waiting

Holy Saturday represents those moments in our lives when God seems silent.

  • The promise has been spoken, but the fulfillment has not yet come.
  • The struggle is real, but the breakthrough has not yet arrived.
  • The prayer has been prayed, but the answer is not yet seen.

This is the tension of waiting in faith—not seeing the victory yet, but holding on to hope.

But even in the silence, God is still working.

The Hidden Victory

Though Jesus’s body lay in the tomb, the battle was not over.

  • His death conquered sin, and His resurrection would soon defeat death itself.
  • The grave could not hold Him. The enemy thought he had won, but God’s plan was still unfolding.
  • In the waiting, God was preparing the greatest victory the world had ever seen.

Heart Check

🔎 Are you in a season of waiting, where it seems like God is silent?
🔎 Do you trust that God is working, even when you can’t see it?
🔎 How can you remain faithful and hopeful while waiting for God’s promises?

(Take a moment of silence. Imagine the tomb—sealed, quiet, but holding the greatest miracle yet to come. What does this waiting feel like in your own life?)

Hope in the Silence

Just as Saturday was not the end, your waiting is not the end of your story.

  • God is still working in the unseen.
  • Hope is never lost.
  • Resurrection is coming.

Jesus’s followers didn’t know what Sunday would bring, but we do. The silence of Saturday was not the final word.

Application

  1. Trust in God’s timing – If you are in a waiting season, remember that God’s delays are not His denials.
  2. Rest in His promises – Just as Jesus’s resurrection was certain, so is God’s faithfulness in your life.
  3. Prepare your heart – Holy Saturday is a time to reflect, pray, and anticipate what God is about to do.

Holy Week Connection

On Good Friday, it seemed like darkness had won. On Saturday, the world remained still. But Sunday was coming—the day when death would be defeated forever.

Prayer

"Lord, in the silence of waiting, help me to trust in You. Even when I cannot see the victory yet, I believe You are working. Strengthen my faith and prepare my heart to receive the hope of resurrection. In Jesus’s name, Amen."
