Day 37: Seeking God in Secret, Not for Show

“But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen; then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:6 (NIV)

📖 Reflection on Matthew 6:6:
In this verse, Jesus invites us into a deeper, more intimate relationship with God, one that is not motivated by the desire for recognition or approval from others. The emphasis is on privacy and secrecy—approaching God not for the sake of appearance but for the sake of sincere communion with Him.

Jesus contrasts this with the behavior of those who seek to be seen when they pray, often in public places or through loud proclamations, hoping to gain attention or admiration. However, true prayer is not about the audience but about the connection with our heavenly Father. It is in the secret moments, when we are alone with God, that our hearts are open, and we experience His presence in a way that is far more profound than any public display could ever offer.

During this Lenten season, a time of inward reflection and sincere repentance, Jesus calls us to examine our motives for seeking Him. Are we doing it for others to notice, or are we seeking His presence because we desire to know Him more deeply? When we seek God in secret, He sees us and rewards us—not with praise from men, but with the closeness of His heart and the transformation of our own.
