The Devil Doesn’t Know Everything: Why He Can Never Outdo God
What if I told you that every time the devil thought he had won, he was actually walking into his own defeat?
Throughout history, Satan has schemed, plotted, and tried to outmaneuver God—only to have his own plans backfire spectacularly. The Bible makes it clear: the devil is not all-knowing, and he can never outdo the Almighty.
From Abel to Moses, from Joseph to Jesus, Satan has attempted to stop God’s plan. But every time, he’s only helped fulfill it. His biggest mistake? The crucifixion of Jesus—the very act that sealed his defeat forever.
Why the Devil Keeps Miscalculating
Many assume Satan is nearly as powerful as God, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. His greatest weakness? He is a created being, limited in knowledge and perspective.
🔹 Satan is not all-knowing – Unlike God, who exists outside of time and sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:9-10), Satan is bound by time and can only react to events as they unfold.
🔹 Satan is not all-powerful – He can only act within the limits that God allows (Job 1:12).
🔹 Satan doesn’t understand God’s wisdom – “None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.” (1 Corinthians 2:8)
Because of these limitations, every time Satan tries to interfere with God’s plan, he ends up playing right into it.
Mistake #1 – Killing Abel: The Devil’s Failed Attempt to Stop the Righteous Seed
After God prophesied in Genesis 3:15 that the “seed of the woman” would crush the serpent’s head, the devil thought he could stop this prophecy by turning Cain against Abel. If Abel was gone, perhaps he could destroy God’s promise.
🔥 How it backfired: Instead of stopping the righteous bloodline, God raised up Seth (Genesis 4:25)—the very line through which Noah, Abraham, David, and ultimately Jesus would come. The devil’s plan only strengthened God’s promise!
Mistake #2 – Selling Joseph into Slavery: A Setup for Salvation
Satan worked through Joseph’s jealous brothers to betray him, thinking this would destroy his destiny. Enslaved, falsely accused, and imprisoned—surely, his dreams were over.
🔥 How it backfired: Joseph’s suffering led him to Egypt, where he became Prime Minister and later saved his family from famine (Genesis 50:20). The very act meant to destroy him positioned him for victory!
Mistake #3 – Pharaoh’s Massacre: Raising a Deliverer Instead
Pharaoh, under Satan’s influence, commanded the killing of Hebrew baby boys to prevent a deliverer from rising (Exodus 1:22). The devil was trying to wipe out Israel’s future before it could even begin.
🔥 How it backfired: Moses wasn’t just spared—he was raised in Pharaoh’s own household! He received the best education in Egyptian leadership, preparing him for the very mission that would set God’s people free (Acts 7:22). The devil’s plan actually trained his own enemy!
Mistake #4 – The Crucifixion of Jesus: The Ultimate Defeat
Satan’s greatest scheme was to kill the Son of God. He worked through Judas, the religious leaders, and the Roman authorities to orchestrate Jesus’ execution. As Jesus hung on the cross, Satan must have believed he had won.
🔥 How it backfired: The cross wasn’t a defeat—it was God’s ultimate weapon to crush the power of sin and death.
🔹 Jesus Was the Sacrificial Lamb
Isaiah 53:5 foretold it:
"But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
🔹 Jesus’ Death Paid for Sin
For centuries, Satan held humanity captive through sin. But when Jesus died, He took on the punishment for every sin ever committed (2 Corinthians 5:21), breaking Satan’s legal claim over mankind.
🔹 The Resurrection: Satan’s Final Defeat
If Jesus had stayed dead, Satan might have claimed victory. But on the third day, Jesus rose, proving He had conquered sin and death forever!
🔹 Satan Was Publicly Humiliated
Colossians 2:15 declares:
"And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross."
What Satan meant for destruction became the greatest victory in history.
Mistake #5 – Persecuting the Church: Causing It to Multiply Instead
After Jesus’ resurrection, Satan turned his wrath on the early church. He stirred up persecution, hoping to destroy it before it could spread.
🔥 How it backfired: Persecution caused believers to scatter and take the gospel to the nations (Acts 8:1-4). Instead of silencing Christians, it ignited a worldwide movement!
God’s Ultimate Plan: Free Will and Redemption
Some may ask: If God is all-powerful, why does He allow Satan to operate at all?
🔹 God respects human free will. He does not force people to love or obey Him, but allows them to choose (Deuteronomy 30:19).
🔹 Satan often works through human choices. Many of the devil’s schemes succeed because people allow themselves to be used for evil. Yet, even when they do, God can turn their actions into something greater for His purposes.
🔹 God’s plan is always bigger. What may seem like chaos or setbacks are all part of God’s grand design for redemption (Romans 8:28).
While Satan rages, God remains in control. Every evil act will ultimately serve His purpose.
Why the Devil Can Never Outdo God
🔹 He is not all-knowing – Only God sees the full picture (Isaiah 46:10).
🔹 He is not all-powerful – Satan has limited authority (Job 1:12).
🔹 God turns evil for good – Every attack backfires (Genesis 50:20).
Final Thought: Satan Always Loses, God Always Wins
No matter how foolproof the devil’s plans may seem, God is always ten steps ahead. Every attempt to thwart God’s will only serves to accomplish it in unexpected ways.
From Abel to Jesus, from Joseph to the church, history proves over and over:
🔥 Satan never wins.
🔥 God always prevails.
🔥 Victory was always assured.
💡 Call to Action: Now that you know God is always ahead, where are you placing your faith today? Will you trust His victory and walk in His power?
